The ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will hold in early September an important conference to elect its highest leading body, the official KCNA news agency reported on Saturday.
The decision to convene the conference was made by the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK on June 23, "reflecting the new requirements of the WPK and the developing revolution," said the report.
The last time the WPK held party congress was in 1980, but conferences have been held since then. This year marks the party's 65th anniversary.
