DPRK puts forward three principles to ease tension on Korean Peninsula

Political parties and organizations of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday put forward three principles to ease the tension on the Korean Peninsula.
The principles were listed in a joint statement issued on the 10th anniversary of the June 15 Joint Declaration issued by DPRK and South Korean leaders a decade ago, said the KCNA official news agency.
The principles are:
-- The DPRK will respect and thoroughly implement the north-south joint declaration, the supreme program for reunification.
-- The political parties and organizations of the DPRK will join hands with whoever upholds and supports the north-south joint declaration ... but never pardon those who negate, defile and violate it.
-- The United States should not obstruct the implementation of the joint declaration nor interfere in the issue and the inter-Korean relations.
The June 15 Joint Declaration represented all the agreements reached between the DPRK and South Korea, the statement said.
However, it said South Korean authorities trampled the declaration and blocked its implementation, driving the inter-Korean relations to a "catastrophe."
The statement also appealed to the international community to positively support and encourage the efforts to uphold and implement the joint declaration as early as possible.
The joint declaration was issued on June 15, 2000, when then South Korean President Kim Dae-jung and top DPRK leader Kim Jong Il held the first inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang.
