Afghan Presidential spokesman Wahid Omar said that the attackers on the peace jirga opened Wednesday, had been eliminated by the security forces and situation is under control.
"Two suicide bombers have been killed and another was captured after gun battle with security forces to disrupt the Peace Jirga," Omar told newsmen.
However, he insisted that there were no casualties on the security forces and civilians. He also said that the jirga has been resumed.
He also added that three militants occupied an under construction building 1.5 km away from the venue of the jirga and targeted it to derail the process.
About 1,600 people including tribal chieftains, parliamentarians, social and political figures as well as government officials gathered under a giant tent to discuss the ways and means on how to enhance the government-initiated reconciliation process with Taliban militants and like-minded groups to ensure lasting peace in the war-torn country.
In talks with media via telephone from unknown location a Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that the outfit had sent four suicide bombers to sabotage the peace jirga.
He also claimed that four militants equipped with suicide vests, rocket propelled grenades and assault rifles have occupied a building and attempting to disrupt the peace jirga.
The three-day peace jirga would be wrapped on Friday afternoon.
