Egypt has first Iraqi ambassador in 20 years

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit met on Saturday Iraq's new ambassador Nezar Eissa al- Kheirallah to the country.

Egypt's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossam Zaki said in a statement that Abul Gheit welcomed the new Iraqi envoy and received a copy of credentials from him.

The spokesman stressed bilateral cooperation and implementation of the signed treaties between the two countries in all fields.

The Egyptian foreign minister said Egypt "is closely watching the situation in Iraq and is concerned about the negative effects of foreign intervention in Iraqi affairs."

In recent years, the two countries have had increasing exchanges in various fields, including high-level official meetings. The trade volume between Egypt and Iraq has also reported rapid growth.
