The U.S. embassy in Kyrgyzstan said here Monday that it will not provide political asylum for Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev.
According to a statement from the embassy, the embassy will neither help Bakiyev to leave the country. All the news that the U.S. authorities will provide assistance to Bakiyev are groundless, it added.
Last week, thousands of protesters clashed with security forces throughout the country, driving out local governments and seizing government headquarters in Bishkek.
Bakiyev fled to the south following the bloody unrest. Opposition parties formed an interim government led by Roza Otunbayeva, a former foreign minister.
