An earthquake measuring 6.1 degrees at Richter scale shook Argentina on Saturday at midday local time in the province of Salta, some 1,600 kilometers northwest to Buenos Aires, without report of victims.
The National Institute of Seismic Prevention (Inpres) said that the earthquake occurred at 12:48 p.m. local time (1548 GMT), affecting the province of Salta, however it was also felt in Jujuy and Tucuman, in the northwest of the country.
The Inpres said that the earthquake has an intensity of V degrees at the Mercalli Modify scale in the cities of San Juan and Mendoza, west of the country. While in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche in Rio Negro Province the intensity was of V to VI.
This earthquake was registered just few hours after the 8.8- degrees earthquake that shook Chile on Saturday early morning.
