Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met in Beijing Tuesday with a delegation from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The delegation was led by Kim Yong Il, director of the International Affairs Department of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea(WPK).

During the meeting, the two sides pledged to take concrete steps to enhance cooperation and inter-party contacts, so as to contribute to the common development of the two countries and regional peace and stability.

Wang visited the DPRK in early February and met with the DPRK's top leader, Kim Jong Il. They discussed issues including bilateral ties and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Chinese President Hu Jintao is expected to meet the visiting delegation Tuesday afternoon.

Last year marked the 60th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic ties and was the "Year of the DPRK-China Friendship," during which the two countries held a series of celebrations.
