Afghan cabinet slams NATO air attack for causing civilian casualties

Afghanistan's cabinet ministers on Monday strongly condemned the NATO air strike launched Sunday in the southern province of Dai Kondi, which killed at least 33 civilians.
The ministers in a statement called the mistaken strike " unjustifiable."
The Afghanistan ministers in the statement urges the NATO forces to closely coordinate and exercise maximum care before conducting any military operation so that any possible mistakes that may result in harming civilians, considered to be a major obstacle for an effective counterterrorism effort, can be avoided.
The ministers extends deep sympathies and condolences to the mourning families of the victims and wishes a quick recovery for the injured.
Media reports indicate that the NATO force fired Sunday on a convoy of three vehicles in Gujran district of the province of Dai Kondi killing at least 33 civilians including four women and one child and injuring 12 others while they were on their way to Kandahar.
The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force earlier on Monday said the incident happened in Uruzgan province. Dai Kondi used to be a district of Uruzan, but has been separated from Uruzan to be an independent province.
