All ministers of Niger's ousted government have been freed, though they are still not allowed to leave the country, a member of the coup junta said in Bamako on Saturday.
"I can tell you that all the members of (overthrown president Mamadou) Tandja's previous government are free from now on," Colonel Djibrilla Hima said on the sidelines of a summit of the West African Economic and Monetary Union in Mali.
According to Mali broadcasting station, Hima was here to brief the West African leaders why they launched the coup. He left the meeting venue immediately after the opening session.
Niger's President Mamadou Tandja was seized during the coup on Thursday. Tandja is now being held in a military camp on the outskirts of the capital Niamey.
The United Nations, the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States and some countries have denounced the coup and called for a restoration of the constitutional order in the former French colony.
