Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, held talks with Kim Yong Il, director of the International Affairs Department of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Pyongyang Sunday.

Wang said the activities held by the two countries last year to mark the DPRK-China friendship year served to enrich and broaden their traditional friendship.

He noted that a retrospect of their bilateral ties indicated it is imperative to handle the relations between the two countries and two parties from a strategic perspective and enhance their political mutual trust amid the complicated and volatile international situation.

On his part, Kim said the traditional friendship, fostered by the elder generation of revolutionaries of the two countries, helped boost the good neighborly relations between the two counties and opened up new spheres for their mutually beneficial cooperation.

They also exchanged views on other issues of mutual concern.

Wang and his delegation arrived here Saturday for a goodwill visit to the DPRK.
