A magnitude-6.0 earthquake hit the coast of Northern California on Thursday, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The quake was centered along the Northern California coastline about 35 miles (56 kilometers) northwest of the town of Petrolia and nearly 50 miles (80 kilometers) west of Eureka, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It struck shortly after 12:20 p.m. local time, the survey said.

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said it received no reports of major injuries or damage.

The National Weather Service said no tsunami warning has been issued following the quake.

Some residents said they felt some shaking.
