6 killed in blast in Pakistan's Karachi

An explosion in a house killed at least six suspected militants in the Pakistani port city of Karachi on Friday, police chief said.
Senior police officer Abdul Majeed Dasti confirmed the killing of six people in the blast at a house near Babri mosque in Baldia Town of the port city.
Wasim Ahmed said that the militants had stored explosives and were planning to use the bombs for terrorist acts in the commercial hub.
Police and rangers have cordoned off the area. Two hand grenades, a suicide jacket and a Kalashnikov automatic gun were recovered from the blast site.
Police said that the explosives was detonated in the house at 7: 45 a.m. local time (0245 GMT), completely destroying the house. Several other nearby houses were also damaged.
Several people were injured in the blast, police said.
Police said that four people from the nearby houses were taken into custody to question them about those died in the explosion.
The bodies are still trapped under the rubbles of the part of the house that caved in due to explosion as bomb disposal squad is searching for more explosives, police said.
Rescue teams have been sent to the site of the blast and the injured are being shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, sources said.
Karachi has seen violent attacks in recent days. Various incidents of drive-by shootings on Thursday killed at least eight people including activists from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
A bomb attack in a procession of Shiite Muslims last month killed 47 people and injured up to 90 others before angry mob turned violent and attacked government buildings, markets, banks and torched vehicles in different parts of Karachi after the attack.
Member National Assembly from Wasim Aftab, said that the Friday's explosion has proved that Taliban militants have entered Karachi, the southernmost major city of Pakistan.
Paramilitary soldiers and police rushed to the blast site and experts from bomb disposal squad collected evidence.
