A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) vowed here Monday to maintain friendly exchanges with Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

Li Yuanchao, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks in his meeting with a delegation led by Taro Kono, director-general of the LDP International Bureau.

Underscoring the importance of China-Japan relations, Li said leaders of the two countries had several successful meetings since the new Japanese government took office in September and bilateral ties witnessed a good start.

He spoke positively of the LDP's efforts to enhance China-Japan relations, expressing his hope that the party would continue to play an active role in increasing bilateral political trust, deepen mutual understanding and cement mutual beneficial cooperation.

Taro Kono told Li he cherishes the friendly ties between his party and the CPC, and hopes the two parties to expand exchanges and cooperation in various areas.
