A United States envoy charged with sanctions on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is visiting Beijing from Monday to Tuesday, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said in Beijing on Tuesday.

"During his stay in Beijing, Philip Goldberg, the U.S. coordinator for United Nation Security Council Resolution 1874, met with Chinese officials and they exchanged views on the implementation of the UN resolution," spokesman Ma Zhaoxu told a press briefing.

The resolution, adopted in June, imposed a broad range of strict financial and trade sanctions on the DPRK.

Ma said it was in the fundamental interests of all parties to press denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, safeguard peace and stability in northeast Asia and resume the six-party talks.

"China will keep close consultation and contacts with all parties to fulfill the goals," Ma said.
