A policeman and a female civilian were killed on Tuesday by attacks of two suspected insurgents in a southernmost province of Narathiwas.

At about 12:50 p.m., local time, the suspected insurgents, who wore clothes similar to that of border security volunteers, drove to roadside restaurants in Su-ngai-go-lok district of Narathiwas and opened fire on people who were having lunch there, Thai News Agency reported.
Before leaving the scene they threw a bomb at one of the restaurants, according to a preliminary investigation by local police.

The police officer of Su-ngai-bha-di Police Station in Narathiwas died on the scene, while a female civilian sustaining injuries died on the way to a hospital.
Thailand's deep South comprises mainly the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwas, and some parts of Songkla province.
Over 3,500 people have been killed by the daily violence by the suspected separatists since January 2004.
