UN-Arab League special envoy Kofi Annan is to visit Syria by the end of May. That's according to a Syrian foreign ministry spokesman.

Top UN officials are currently in Syria to discuss the implementation of Annan's peace plan and make preparations for his visit. It is hoped that Annan's arrival will provide fresh impetus to ceasefire efforts.
