More than 6,000 runners, including current and former athletes and celebrities, have taken part in a race at London's Olympic Park to test the new facilities.

Organized by the UK's National Lottery, the event attracted 40,000 applicants all wanting to be part of the country's big sporting event. Britain's Princess Beatrice, the Queen's youngest granddaughter, officially started the afternoon "Olympic Park Run".

From the Orbit Tower, the field covered eight kilometers, to the finishing line in the 80,000-seat capacity Stadium, three months before it hosts the main Olympics events.
