The Civil Aviation Administration of China said on Monday that China's airlines are prohibited from paying a charge on carbon emissions imposed by the Europe Union. It also notes Chinese airlines are banned from hiking freight or any other fees without government approval.

The administration says China hopes Europe will act in the light of the broader issues of responding to global climate change. It wants the EU to strengthen communication and coordination to find a mutually-acceptable solution for both sides.

From January 1st this year, all airlines flying into or departing from EU airports are subject to the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme.

But more than two dozen countries, including the United States, India, Russia and China, have opposed the move, saying it violates international law and will translate into more expensive airfares for travelers.
