China releases highest resolution map of the Moon

The highest resolution map ever produced detailing the surface of the Moon, has been published by China's National Defense Technology Industry Administration.

The images, taken by China's Chang'e-2 spacecraft, capture an unprecedented 7-meters-per pixel of the lunar surface.

Composed of 746 pieces, the map was completed in three months as the Chang'e 2 spacecraft circled the moon and was followed by a half year of data analysis.

The images, taken by China's Chang'e-2 spacecraft, capture an unprecedented 7-meters-per pixel of the lunar surface. 

The completion of the map signifies an important step for China's Lunar Exploration Program.

During its mission,the probe will also test key technology including how to make soft landings on the Moon.
