Drafts of the new school bus safety standards are currently being studied by the National Automobile Standardization and Technical Committee. A feedback session was held by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Tuesday morning.
One member of the committee, Xiao Han, says factors such as climate differences need to be considered, although safety remains the priority. He also said foreign standards would not be universally applied, and opinions from the public and the media would be invited.
The process of developing national school bus safety standards has been underway since December 11th 2011. It was prompted by several high profile accidents last year.
