China's maritime authority says that ConocoPhillips China has failed to meet the clean-up requirements for its oil spill in Bohai Bay.
The State Oceanic Administration demanded the company to screen out all potential sources for spills and block leaks once and for all. Xinhua News Agency reported Friday that grey and black slick could still be spotted on the water's surface about 500 meters away from the leaking oil field.
Experts say this means the slick is very thick. COPC's oil field manager claims that slick was present because the clean-up efforts were hampered by wind gusts. He also stated that there is no timetable for the completion of the clean-up as many unknown variables still exist. The oil has now spread to beaches in the provinces of He-bei and Liao-ning.
