And maybe it's their Spanish heritage, but sometimes, Latin Americans seem like the most joyful people in the world. They always find a good reason to celebrate life. This time, thousands of people attended a parade in Mexico City on Sunday, where they celebrated the beginning of summer vacation for school children. But as you'll see, most of the revelers are way beyond their adolescence.
Children are not doubt delighted when they see the giant balloons of cartoon characters soaring overhead. Mickey Mouse and Spiderman flew over Reforma Street in Mexico's capital, creating a fun and festive atmosphere around the city's solemn monument, Angel of Independence.
The municipal government of Mexico City organized this parade over the weekend to welcome summer 2011. According to the mayor, the goal of the parade was to provide entertainment for children and their families, as well as to promote activities that they could enjoy during their summer vacation.
About 1,500 people wearing different costumes participated in the parade. Acrobats, clowns, drummers and jugglers entertained thousands of people watching on the side of the street. The parade drew about 150-thousand viewers, with both local residents and tourists sharing in the fun.
