As the guessing game over the health of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez continues, Cuban state television has shown photographs and footage of him meeting former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

The report says the encounter took place in the morning and the two longtime friends "reminisced about the past" in the company of family members. But Cuban television did not say when Chavez might return to Venezuela. Chavez underwent surgery in Cuba two weeks ago and has been quiet since then.

Officials say it was for a pelvic abscess. Chavez's silence and seclusion have spurred growing speculation in Venezuela and elsewhere that he might be seriously ill, but his allies insist he is recovering from the operation, and will return home soon.
