Flood encounters drought in central China

Anhui, Jiangsu, Hunan and Hubei provinces in east and Central China are suffering two opposite severe weather disasters at the same time.

Over eight million residents and more than four hundred thousand hectares of farmland are affected by the flooding.

More than 200 thousand hectares of land are still in drought and more than one million people are lacking drinking water in part of the four provinces. Severe flooding is hitting the other parts of the region as well as nine other provinces along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

So far, over eight million residents and more than four hundred thousand hectares of farmland are affected by the flooding. 98 people died. 27 thousand houses were submerged or destroyed, and over 10 million people were affected. The disaster has caused almost 8.7 billion yuan of economic losses in the region.
