Japan's National Police Agency says as of Wednesday night, the death toll from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami had reached nearly 12,600. More than 15,000 people are still missing.

The Japanese Maritime Safety Agency says the sea bed around the epicenter has moved about 24 meters southern-eastwards after the quake.
