The three-day Qingming Festival has begun across the country, with the traditional Tomb Sweeping Day set for Tuesday. It's expected that more than 400 million people, nationwide, will visit the resting sites of their deceased relatives and pay their respects.
Cemeteries across the country are set to experience a surge in visitor numbers, as tomb sweeping is regarded as the festival's most important custom.
In Beijing, police are using helicopters to monitor the traffic conditions around major graveyards.
Fire departments are also on high alert, since the custom of burning paper is believed to deliver money to the deceased.
The day is not only meant for remembering the dead, but also serves as an occasion for people to enjoy spring. Traffic officials are carrying out necessary measures to prepare for congestion, during the holiday's peak hours.
