Residents in south China's Yunnan Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region also felt tremors from the Myanmar earthquake.

The epicenter was just 40 kilometers from the Myanmar-China border. In Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, buildings shook for over a minute. A school in one county had cracks on the walls.

More than 360 students and teachers were evacuated to the playground. In Nanning City, capital of Guangxi, many residents left their homes after they felt the tremors. Authorities are investigating losses and possible casualties. No casualties has been reported so far.

A spokesman with Yunnan's seismological bureau says the quake is unlikely to cause serious casualties in the province. The spokesman added contact between the bureau and its liaisons at the Myanmar-China border has not been disrupted.
