Putin and Medvedev visit blast victims

Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, and President Dmitry Medvedev, have visited the victims of Monday's bomb blast on its main airport in Moscow.
They announced a package of compensation, and vowed to step up security in the light of the attack.
Prime Minister Putin and President Medvedev visited a local hospital where some of the 180 people wounded in Monday's attack are being treated.
The president gave his best wishes to those injured, saying the perpetrators had deliberately tried to kill as many people as possible.
Dmitry Medvedev, Russia President, said, "I hope you will get better quickly and the operation goes well. Get better! Best wishes!"
Medvedev called for robust checks at all transport hubs, criticizing airport officials over lax security.
Prime Minister Putin said the victims would be avenged.
Vladimir Putin, Russia's Prime Minister, said, "I have no doubt this crime will be investigated and retribution is inevitable."
Putin says the families of those killed will receive compensation of three million rubles, around 100 thousand US dollars. Those wounded would get between 1.2 million and 1.9 million rubles.
During a later government meeting, Putin put forward proposals for improving security on public transport.
No claims of responsibility have been made for the attack. However, suspicion is likely to fall on Islamist separatists from Chechnya, or elsewhere in Russia's restive Caucasus region. Chechen insurgents have launched several previous attacks, in their 15 year battle with the Russian authorities.
