The new traffic control package caused car sales to skyrocket at the end of 2010. Over 100 thousand cars were sold in Beijing from December 1st to December 23rd. And that does not include more than 30 thousand cars sold on the last night.
Wang Huawei, the manager of a Beijing 4S store, says he will never forget the last night before the new policy came into effect.
Wang said, The night of the 23rd was crazy. People just poured in and handed money to us. They didn't care about the model, the color or the price. They just wanted a car.
But things are totally different now.
Promotions are failing to bring in customers. Most salesman are on holiday, leaving one or two do nothing but worry about the future.
Wang said, Our sales target in 2011 drops 60 percent from that of 2010. The future of the market is not optimistic.
Wang says the weekly sales volume now is less than what it used to be in one day.
Life is much harder for small dealers. Some have even closed while wait to see where the market is going.
Ma Yong, car dealer, said, I paid the booth rent but there's no car inside. I'm afraid that no one will buy it. I will wait until May. If the market is still terrible, I will quit.
Experts predicts that half of 420 car dealers in Beijing may go out of business in 2011. The huge lost will have a series of side-effects, including loss of jobs and lack of after sales service.
