The first round of applications for vehicle license plate in Beijing has concluded. More than 210-thousand individuals are competing for a quota of only 20-thousand under the new lottery system.

Applicants who pass the verification will be able to try their luck in the first draw on January 26th, which will be open to the public. Those rejected will automatically go to next round. Applications for the quota for the next month have started and end on February 8th.

The lottery system is one of the latest measures introduced to tackle the capital's growing traffic congestion.
