Shanghai is mourning 53 victims killed in Monday's fire at a high-rise apartment complex. Residents and relatives attended a memorial ceremony to remember those killed.

Victims' families laid bouquets in front of the complex in memory of their loved ones.

Meanwhile, insurance companies have begun paying compensation to residents affected by the fire. Families of at least two victims are expected to receive more than 1.8 million yuan from the Ping'an Insurance Company. Authorities have pledged a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire.
