High waves swept 70-year-old villager Kahfi towards a tree. He hung on for five days until he was rescued on Saturday. Another health clinic in the Mentawai islands has been overwhelmed by patients, as aid is slow to reach remote areas. Survivors face shortages of food and medicine, and the likelihood of disease outbreaks.
