In the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, a fireworks display erupted above thousands of dancers in Pyongyang's Kim Il-sung Square on Sunday in celebration of the 65th anniversary of the founding of the ruling party of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The event was attended by top leader Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, and his youngest son Kim Jong Un, who is the newly-promoted general of the country.
Celebrations started on Sunday morning with a display of military might. The Parade in the centre of the capital was the climax of the celebrations.
The WPK held a rare party conference at the end of last month to pick a new leadership.
The WPK was founded by late DPRK leader Kim Il Sung in 1945 and October 10th was marked as the party's birthday.
