Typhoon Fanapi has swept across China's southern province of Guangdong bringing strong winds and heavy rain. The death toll now stands at 70, with another 65 missing. The provincial government is dropping relief supplies into the disaster zone from helicopters.
Nearly 1.2 million people have been affected in 22 counties and 179 towns. About 100 thousand people have been evacuated, and more than 3,700 buildings have collapsed.
Helicopters are dropping food, water, and tents in the hardest-hit areas. Electricity has been restored in some towns of Maoming and Yangjiang cities. Power in all areas is expected to be back on by Sunday.
