A car bomb has ripped through a police compound in a northwestern Pakistani city, killing 14 women and children and three officers.

The dead were the wives and children of police officers. Another 94 people were wounded. They were taken to hospital after rescuers cleared the rubble from more than two dozen collapsed houses and shops.

An officer says there was a huge explosion in the residential area of the compound soon after the evening breaking of the daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan. Meanwhile Wednesday, at least two people were killed and many others injured in a blast that took place at a bazaar in the city of Hab in southern Pakistan.
