Elephants raise trunks for charity

In the UK, hundreds of fiberglass elephants have stalked the streets in London, to arouse more public concern about protecting real elephants in Asia from extinction.
Since May, 260 colorful fiberglass elephants moved onto the streets of London. The migratory herd of life-sized animals are designed by artists and fashion designers from around the world.
The campaign called Elephant Parade was launched by the charity organization Elephant Family for the Conservation of Asian Elephants.
All the elephant exhibits will go under the hammer at celebrity auctions in London to raise money to help save Asian elephants.
Organizers say that so far they've received more than one-million pounds from the auction of the first batch of 31 elephants. The rest of the elephants will be auctioned online. Organizers hope that they will raise a total of 2-and-a-half million pounds.
There are estimated to be just around 250-thousand to 350-thousand wild Asian elephants scattered about in 13 Asian countries today. The lack of corridors and habitats are considered one of the major threats confronting the species.
