Brazil broke down some strong DPRK resistance to win 2-1 with second half goals from Maicon and Elano in a World Cup Group G match at Ellis Park Tuesday.
After 44 years, the DPRK returned to the World Cup. The team organized a solid rearguard to keep the first half scoreless. Ten minutes into the second half, Maicon broke the deadlock by taking a surprise shot from the right wing in the penalty zone. Seventeen minutes later Elano scored, sidefooting home after Robinho's penetrating pass through the defenses. However, the DPRK squad never gave up. Ji Yun-nam broke away to score by a powerful shot in the 89th minute. Earlier Portugal and Ivory Coast drew 0-0 in another Group G game in Port Elizabeth.
