China's growing strength in the low-carbon sector is drawing increasing world attention. An Index tracking China's clean tech companies has officially launched in Beijing, providing a benchmark for the development of China's low carbon economy.
Melissa Guzy is the Managing Director of the VantagePoint Partners, a global leader in CleanTech investing who produced the index. She says China has become a vanguard in developing a low-carbon economy, with Chinese clean tech companies outperforming their peers in other markets.
Companies tracked by the index have seen their combined marketization more than triple since 2007.
And the momentum is expected to continue.
Professor Tang Fangfang from Peking University says the low-carbon economy has high growth potential.
The China Low Carbon Index includes 35 publicly-traded companies. It covers four main CleanTech sectors: clean-energy generation, energy transfer and storage, clean consumption and production, and waste management.
