Premier Wen Jiabao has arrived in Tokyo, kicking off a three-day visit to Japan. The trip comes on the heels of a weekend summit with Japan and South Korea at the resort island of Jeju.
After his arrival, Premier Wen Jiabao attended an awards ceremony for contributions towards the promotion of Sino-Japanese friendship.
10 organizations and 5 individuals won awards.
Premier Wen Jiabao said that he hopes the people of both nations can make further contributions to promoting ties between the two countries.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said, "The basis of the Sino-Japan friendship lies with the ordinary people of both countries. People to people contact is the most important factor in pushing forward and promoting bilateral ties."
Later, Wen Jiabao attended a dinner with Japan-China friendship organizations, addressing the audience.
He said China hopes to further deepen ties with Japan, adding that mutual political trust is crucial in building a strong strategic relationship.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said, "Although there are still problems and misunderstandings between the two countries, we still believe that mutual trust and communication can change the situation. I always remember when Japanese war orphans came to see me in 2009. They sang a song in which the lyrics said I have two homes, one is in Japan, and the other is in China. All of us had tears in our eyes. I believe that by deepening mutual trust and cooperation, China and Japan can set up a solid strategic partnership in the future."
Premier Wen Jiabao is urging both countries to enhance mutual political trust and step up dialogue and cooperation in all spheres.
He is calling on both countries to work closely together and come up with valuable suggestions to contribute to a long-term friendship and common prosperity.
As scheduled, Premier Wen Jiabao is going to meet with Emperor Akihito, and hold talks with Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama. He will also meet with speakers of the senate and the country's house of representatives.
