Macao's government sent a letter to Google inquiring about the company's possible intrusion into personal data. The move came after Hong Kong began a probe into information collected by Google.

Google has admitted that it "mistakenly collected samples of data from non-encrypted WiFi networks. The company's Street View data-collecting cars swept through various cities in the world, and unknowingly acquired personal data such as network names and MAC addresses.

Macao and Hong Kong are among the cities included in the street view project.

Hong Kong's privacy commissioner for personal data criticized Google's practice and demanded a meeting on Tuesday. Google has agreed to delete the personal data collected in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Macao's Office for Personal Data Protection says it has already contacted Hong Kong and expressed support for the way it's handling the Google situation.

In Macao, the violation of personal data protection laws constitutes an administrative crime, and may even be a violation of criminal law.
