Another powerful film getting noticed around the world is "Crossing the Mountain," directed by young female filmmaker Yang Rui. It was an entry at the Youth Director Session of this year's Berlin Festival and got a lot of attention for its unconventional shooting style and the director's concern for young ethnic people living in the mountains.
Now, "Cross the Mountain" is playing at the Beijing MOMA Cinema House, to let more people share the young director's vision. Focusing on the ethnic young people living near China's southwest border, "Crossing the Mountain" was a hot topic at Berlin, Hong Kong, and Argentina Festivals for its individuality in both theme and style. Crossing mountains represents an ordinary life status of some Wa minority youngsters.
But the director says the characters also have a mountain in their hearts that they must cross. The thought-provoking movie will be screened at MOMA cinema house once a month until the end of the year.
