Flooding, mudslides and torrential rain have wreaked havoc in China's southern regions since last week. Authorities have launched an emergency response mechanism to minimize losses.

Ganzhou City in Jiangxi Province encountered heavy rainstorms on Sunday, with average precipitation exceeding 30 millimeters. Days of torrential rain and swelling rivers caused some bridges to subside. But no casualties have been reported.

Under an emergency rainstorm warning mechanism, eleven medium-size reservoirs in Ganzhou have opened flood discharge channels, to ease water levels.

As a cold air front moves south, most regions in central China's Hubei Province are being hit by strong torrential rain. In the capital Wuhan City, precipitation reached 41 millimeters in just two hours. Local meteorological agencies issued a warning that this round of rain and temperature drops will continue through to Tuesday morning. The province has launched an emergency response scheme to deal with the bad weather and possible disasters, including mudslides and mountain flooding.

In Hunan Province, the rainstorms paused for a short while on Saturday night, but resumed on Sunday. The Provincial Meteorological Bureau has issued this year's fifth agricultural disaster warning. Farmers are speeding up work on the fields to take care of the crops and drain out excess water. Experts are urging immediate relief work as soon as the rain stops.
