Beijing Autoshow opens to public

The Beijing Autoshow has finished its two days of media previews, and is now open to the public.
From the fastest-ever Ferrari and local-made electric cars, world automakers have lined up their finest creations to woo customers in the world's largest market.
Given the gloom that has been affecting market sectors of the auto world, car shows in China are increasingly figuring in every automaker's timetable.
An unprecedented fleet of nearly 1,000 cars, with 89 global debut models, will go on display at the Beijing Autoshow.
95 new energy cars have been unveiled at the show. Among them 30 are pure electric cars. Volvo's EV C30 stands out with a maximum range of 150 kilometers with a fully charged battery.
The power it needs is only one fourth of the fossil fuel energy that traditional combustion cars consume. Volvo has recently been bought by Chinese private brand Geely for 1.8 billion US dollars.
Qi Yumin, Chairman of Brilliance Auto, said, "In the future we will definitely focus on pure electric technology. Now, the practical thing is to work on hybrid technology. But there is no doubt that pure electric cars are the future."
China thrashed the US and became the world's largest car market in 2009, with 13.6 million vehicle sales. The country is looking to break new records as some estimate consumers may snap up 20 million cars this year.
