Almost two years after the Wenchuan earthquake, the mountainous county of Qingchuan is working around the clock to rebuild. With financial and technical assistance from Zhejiang Province, Qingchuan people are glad to find that their new homes are a major upgrade.

Land is very precious for the people of Qingchuan. Throughout the county, buildings were constructed on limited areas along the mountainous terrain.
The other option, large areas of flat land along the river, is constantly threatened by floods.
Tian Baojie, town chief of Qingchuan County, said, "The county is located in the mountainous area, so the areas of flat land are very limited. This is the largest area of flat land in our entire 34-square-kilometer town."
Architects from Zhejiang Province decided to solve the problem through flood control. A one-kilometer-long embankment was built with a fund of 6 million yuan.
Huang Yixin, Zhejiang architect, said, "We increased more than 20 hectares of construction land. And we are building schools, social housing and residential communities. The area will become a new district of the town. And we linked it to the old district with a bridge. "
The embankment has changed the town's layout along with the lives of local residents.
A student in Guangzhou Town Middle School, said, "Now we have a new big dining hall. And our new playground has more basketball nets and a better racetrack. I feel very happy studying in such a new environment."
Architects have also built many new bridges over the river across Qingchuan, greatly enhancing communication in the county.
