A cold snap paralyzed Turkey on Monday.

Heavy snow blocked road access to nearly 3-thousand villages across the country.

The snowstorm also cut power, gas and water supplies in Turkey's financial capital Istanbul.

Salim Senguler, Istanbul Resident, said, "This is not good for Istanbul. Not good for transportation. People cannot go to work and some shops are not open."

Many provinces are also experiencing traffic delays, with jammed highways and flight cancellations.

Weather forecasts predict temperatures in eastern Turkey could drop to as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius in the next few days.

Lower temperatures have hit eastern Europe. In Poland, temperatures fell to a chilling minus 35 degrees Celsius. Ice and snow caused travel disruption while thousands of households suffered power cuts.
