The continuing cold snap is bringing record low temperatures to Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The extreme cold front has led to a surge in the number of hospital patients with frostbite.

The region's health bureau has sent ten groups of medical experts to the worst-hit areas of Altay Prefecture and Tacheng. They will help county or village hospitals to conduct emergency operations for injuries caused by the cold. The groups have also brought about 180 thousand yuan worth of urgently-needed drugs to each county.
