Buildings that are as close to "zero-energy" as possible is the aim for architects and engineers who care about the environment. And that dream may not be so far away after all.
Judging from just its appearance, the URBN Hotel is very ordinary. But actually, it is China's first "carbon neutral" hotel. Every part of the hotel is devoted to recycling or saving energy. Whether you are sleeping, eating or drinking, you are paying attention to environmental protection.
The rear wall is made of recycled luggage. The luxurious wooden floors are actually taken from dismantled houses. And the whole building was originally an old post office. These special designs have helped the hotel cut environmental costs by half, making it a favorite for foreign customers interested in its eco-friendly concept.
Meanwhile, the hotel provides another special service, to help customers offset their carbon footprint. It calculates the amount of carbon that a customer has used, and plants trees accordingly in the northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
