"High School Musical" is an Emmy award-winning American television film. Upon its release in January 2006, it became the most successful movie that the Disney Channel ever produced. Its television sequel "High School Musical 2" and feature film "High School Musical 3" also received remarkable box office results. Now, China has started to shoot their own version of the popular movies.

Globally, "High School Musical" has been seen by over 300-million viewers. Now a collaboration between Disney, and Shanghai Media Group, and Huayi Brothers Media Group will promote a Chinese edition. At the press conference, the six leading actors including Zhang Junning and Yuan Chengjie made an appearance and showed off their singing and dancing.

It took the sponsors half a year to select the actors, but they still have a long way to go to polish their performing skills.

The Chinese production portrays a group of youngsters who have varied backgrounds, and tells their stories full of laughter and tears. The themes of the film are similar to the original Disney one, that is, team work, friendship, confidence, and self-discovery.

Chen Shizheng, director of Chinese "High School Musical", said, "We are trying to showcase how the younger generation is living in today's China, what they love and what they believe."

It is the first campus musical in China's film history and it will take some time to see if it works out with Chinese youngsters.
