The European Union and Russia have agreed to intensify climate and energy cooperation at a one-day summit in Stockholm.

Climate change and energy issues dominated discussions at the EU-Russia Summit, which ended on Wednesday. Following the summit, Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and EU High Representative Javier Solana held a joint press conference.

The EU welcomed Russia's ambitions on climate change and emphasized further cooperation. Russia said it has already met its commitments under the Kyoto Protocol, and will further reduce its emissions. The two sides also agreed that cooperation in energy needs to be intensified.
