As regions across China encountered a severe cold front in recent days, people have stayed at home to keep warm. But for those without a home, winter is the worst time of year.
This pale and weak young man sits in the clinic at the Nanning First People's Hospital. Doctors say he arrived the day before after having an epileptic seizure. He has no money and no relatives in the city.
Song Boning, director of Nanning First People's Hospital, said, "He should go to the social welfare house in Nanning. If he wants, we'll help him go there and connect with it."
Zhang Yongheng, homeless person in Nanning, said, "The social welfare house can do nothing for me. They'll send me back to my hometown. I have only one sister."
Zhang Yongheng said he came from Shandong province to look for his sister in Nanning. Unfortunately, his belongings were stolen. And he doesn't know how to contact his sister.
In Guangdong province, many homeless people stay under this bridge. Despite the cold temperature, they refuse to go to a social welfare house.
"I'm afraid they'll send me back. I have no home."
"I've never been there and I don't know what's it like. But I feel at ease here."
In response to their situation, Guangzhou's Civil Affairs Bureau has decided to distribute relief materials.
Zheng Yikun, Civil Affairs Bureau of Baiyun District of Guangzhou, said, "We assign two patrol cars to look for homeless people. We distribute 10 quilts and 8 thick coats every day."
For those homeless people who refuse aid, the bureau staff are able to direct them to an appointed place of shelter.
